Homemade Peppermint Mocha
1 drink · 5 minutes · Any milk frother
Cocoa, coffee and a little mint, topped with frothed milk. No store-bought syrup needed. Makes 1 drink in about 5 minutes. Adapted from Just a Taste.
What do you need for a homemade peppermint mocha?
- ¾ cup hot brewed coffee, or 2 shots espresso
- 1½ tablespoons unsweetened cocoa powder
- 1½ tablespoons sugar
- ¼ teaspoon peppermint (mint) extract
- ¾ cup milk (whole or barista oat)
- Whipped cream and crushed candy cane, optional
How do you make a peppermint mocha at home?
Make the mocha base
In a mug, whisk the cocoa powder and sugar with a splash of the hot coffee into a smooth paste, then stir in the rest of the coffee.
Add the mint
Stir in the peppermint extract. Start with ¼ teaspoon — mint extract is strong — and add more to taste.
Froth the milk
Heat and froth the milk until very hot but not boiling, then pour it over the mocha.
Top and serve
Finish with whipped cream and crushed candy cane if you like.
Tips
Which frother works best for this recipe?
Any frother works. For hot drinks, a frother that heats milk saves a step: the Breville Milk Café (#1, Froth Score™ 67) or the budget Instant Pot 4-in-1. A $9 handheld Zulay works if you heat the milk first. Not sure? Take the frother quiz.
